Special Olympics/Sesame Street – health disparities in disabled populations
Guest is Dr. Steve Perlman (a dentist), one of the pioneers of health care improvements for people with disabilities, and one of the key movers in the national Special Olympics. Saturday, Dr. Perlman, Sesame Street and the Special Olympics are holding a health event at the Bayview YMCA to promote health for disabled athletes.  Dr. Perlman will be joined by a representative (TBA) from local Special Olympics.

Hour 2

1pm-1:30pm
Uh-oh. A new study suggests that glucosamine might not be all it’s cracked up to be for improving function of the knee and other joints. Glucosamine has been marketed for years and has been shown to improve joint function in animals. But a new study from NIH Alternative Medicine says exercise is better than Glucosamine –especially for knee problems. Dr. Chris Drinkwater, an orthopedist from Highland Hospital, weighs in and answers questions.

1:30-2pm
Dr. Lou Papa, Second Opinion’s primary care physician, joins us for a preview of Season 10 of Second Opinion. Host Dr. Peter Salgo joins by phone.
