A preview of tonight's "State of the City" address with a local news panel including WXXI news director Randy Gorbman and Democrat and Chronicle city politics reporter Brian Sharp; then, we talk with state senator Ted O'Brien about his push for new anti-corruption legislation and the state of Albany today.

Rochester's professional lacrosse team, the Knighthawks, is heading for the championship game this weekend in British Columbia. We'll talk with Knighthawks player (and Irondequoit native) Joe Walters and fan club president Tim Knab about why the sport has such a rabid following in town. Then, we examine a new report criticizing the lack of services to help city school students apply for college, with guest Pat Braus of the Rochester Education Foundation.

Jack Garner, retired Democrat and Chronicle film critic, joins us to talk about the movies and some of his other passions, including the upcoming Jazz Festival.

Rochester's first female TV news anchor, Anne Keefe, went on to become a legendary radio (and public TV) talk host in St. Louis. She returned to Rochester in 2011, and she joins us to talk about her career and about the media today.

The craft brewing scene in Rochester is booming. In our "Beer Hour," we talk with local brewers large and small about their contributions to the area economy. Panelists will include Chris Spinelli of ROC Brewing and others, TBA.

 

Friday 5/10 – Education Friday; guest host Frank Cegelski

 

Hour 1: Tiffany Lankes, education reporter for the D & C, talks about the crew team being started in the City Schools, and the issues of race and class in a sport that is dominated by white, affluent people. Other guests TBA

 

Hour 2: Guests TBA from Badfish Consulting, who are in partnership with the Rochester Museum and Science Center for an “innovation in education” initiative.
