Account Executive – WXXI / Little Theatre Media Sales

DIVISION:

Sales & Marketing

REPORTS TO:

Director of Sales & Marketing

CLASSIFICATION:

Full-time, exempt

ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE:

The Account Executive is responsible for all aspects of generating underwriting revenue at WXXI Public Broadcasting & The Little Theatre – e.g. securing new sponsors and renewing existing accounts to meet revenue goals for programming and related services, including the following:

  • Television
    • WXXI-TV
    • WXXI-Create
    • WXXI-Kids
  • Radio
    • WXXI-AM 1370 – NPR News & Talk
    • WXXI-FM 91.5 – Classical Music
    • WRUR-FM 88.5 – NPR News/Adult Album Alternative Music
    • WEOS-FM 89.5 – NPR News & Talk, Geneva
    • WITH-FM 90.1 – Adult Album Alternative Music/News & Talk, Ithaca
  • WXXI Digital
  • WXXI Program Listings print guide
  • The Little Theatre
  • Special Events & misc. projects

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, grow, and maintain a base of client and agency relationships.
  • Create and sell customized marketing solutions tailored to meet clients’ individual needs.
  • Articulate our unique value proposition via in-person meetings, phone calls, and presentations to senior level personnel who make or influence advertising and marketing purchasing decisions.
  • Ability to prospect strategically, with a significant focus on new business development.
  • Plan, implement and track sales activity with decision-makers.
  • Prepare presentations, proposals and marketing research.
  • Generate contracts, billing summaries and traffic orders for closed sales.
  • Actively participate in collaborative intra- and interdepartmental projects.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of media sponsorships.
  • Assist and participate in other development, marketing and station-related activities, such as WXXI’s Open House, WXXI-sponsored events, and other events, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Concentration in Business, Marketing or Communications preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years working in a related field

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Highly personable, self-motivated, results-oriented, creative, curious, and a real team player
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Persuasive and effective communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Ability and eagerness to sell public media

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of WXXI/Little products
  • Strong digital acumen
  • Sales experience in public broadcasting, or experience working in the non-profit sector
  • Advertising agency experience
  • Familiarity with traffic software (Allegiance, ProTrack, etc.), research software (Nielsen Scarborough, The Media Audit, etc.), and contact management software (ACT!, Salesforce, etc.)
