Full-Time, Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: 

This is a skilled technical position expressly in the installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of equipment utilized in radio and television studios and transmission systems.

An employee working in this category is engaged in the operation and maintenance of, TV and radio studios, and related TV and radio transmission equipment. Work also involves installation of high speed networking, time-domain multiplex signals and maintenance of this type of equipment. The position will work directly with the Chief Engineer to schedule and set priorities. However, the work usually will be performed independently with little or no direction from a supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists with the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment utilized in TV studios, radio studios, and transmitter plants;
  2. Inspects equipment and conducts performance checks to insure proper operation and conformity with FCC regulations;
  3. Involved in the repair and maintenance of video cameras, sound recording equipment, digital audio recorders, digital and analog audio production and broadcast console control and switching systems, audio over IP, time-division multiplex audio and various other electronic equipment;
  4. Provide instruction and training to staff on equipment usage and operation;
  5. Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of broadcast systems and components of those systems
  • Knowledge of radio engineering operations including the installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of radio networks
  • Knowledge of IP/TCP IP networks including network design, implementation, testing and troubleshooting
  • General knowledge of FCC rules and regulations pertaining to radio and television engineering operations
  • General knowledge of the design and operation of RF distribution systems and two way VHF communications equipment
  • Knowledge of radio-television safety standards
  • Ability to install, maintain, and the repair of technical equipment
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to document system concepts, design and implementation documentation including system operational specification and failover procedures
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Skill in the use of specialized equipment commonly used in broadcast engineering

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university major course work in electronics or electrical engineering and experience in broadcast radio and television operations; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
