Full-Time, Exempt 40 hours

Summary:

This is a WXXI position funded by a multi-year grant contract with the New York State Education Department.  Renewal is contingent on satisfactory job performance to meet contract requirements and continued contracts being awarded.  

Broad Function:

Administer WXXI’s New York State Education Department (NYSED) RAEN contract to plan and deliver quality, research-based professional development to improve adult educators’ skills in the 9-county Finger Lakes region. Services are provided to state and federally funded adult literacy agencies that work with adult students below the post-secondary level including adult basic education, high school equivalency, ESL/ESOL, skills preparation for workforce training.  The director will also provide technical assistance to agencies in meeting statewide benchmarks on the National Reporting System (NRS) and act as a regional liaison between NYSED and agencies. Travel in the region and state required.

Specific Duties:

  1. Coordinate, implement and present NYSED-approved training events, program managers meetings, services and content using a variety of in-person training, distance learning, videoconferencing, audio-conferencing, webinars, online learning and digital educational services to meet the needs of Adult Literacy Agencies and other regional partners. Director will become certified to lead some specific training workshops.
  2. Provide technical assistance to adult literacy agencies using data to provide research-based training to increase accountability and improved outcomes by these agencies and implementation and execution of NYS Education Department policies. (Adult Literacy Agency professionals in Literacy Volunteers, BOCES, School Districts, Community Colleges, Corrections Education and other Adult Basic Education and ESL/ESOL programs)
  3. Work collaboratively with external agencies, WXXI departments, the NYSED Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (AEPP) Team, other regional NY State RAENs, and workforce development and education partners to communicate, coordinate and market collective services to the region and the state. (Includes work with local Workforce Development Boards, American Job Centers and Adult Literacy Agencies and ACCES-VR) Coordinate regular program manager meetings and communications to share developments, policies and best practices with local agencies served by the Finger Lakes RAEN. Act as a liaison between the RAEN, WXXI and New York State Public Television stations to promote resource sharing and best practices.
  4. Administer/maintain budget, vendor contracts & MWBE contract system, monthly reports and paperwork and statistical data related to projects and training activities for submission to national and state funders. 
  5. Supervise one staff member, interns and/or volunteers and work as a team player with the WXXI Education & Interactive Services Department in delivery of services to the region.

Required Skills:

  • A demonstrated self-starter with outstanding professionalism, project and staff management skills, friendly, customer service and a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, implement and deliver presentations, workshops, and seminars in-person and abilities to use a variety of instructional and online technologies. Ability to select appropriate contract presenters on approved topics.
  • Experience in budget & data management and analysis of educational accountability systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the personal communication, report and grant writing, instructional materials, email & websites, marketing, educational coaching and technical assistance meetings to keep all partners and colleagues well-informed.
  • Flexibility to travel on day trips and overnight trips for regional and statewide training and program meetings with agencies and NYSED. (Most travel will be within the 9 county region including Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Yates, Seneca, Orleans, Genesee, Livingston, and Wyoming and NY State. Required monthly travel to attend NYSED meetings in Albany.)
  • Outstanding ability to network and successfully manage excellent interpersonal relationships with staff, volunteers, interns, co-workers, outside agencies and partners and build a pluralistic community by promoting an increased understanding of individual differences and perspectives that will enable a positive community.
  • Handles confidential information sensitively and appropriately.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License Required.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift 30 lbs.

Required Education:

Master’s Degree or equivalent professional experience in related Education fields. Adult Education, Adult Literacy degrees & experience preferred.
