Russell Miller on Backstage Pass
Russell Miller on Backstage Pass
Fri, 09/16/2011 - 1:00pm - 2:00pm
The Associate Professor of Vocal Coaching and Repertoire at the Eastman School of Music joins Julia Figueras for Backstage Pass.
Julia Figueras welcomes Eastman School of Music's Russell Miller in studio as he performs on the piano and talks about his upcoming recital on Tuesday, September 20 at the Hatch Recital Hall as part of the Eastman School of Music's Faculty Artists Series. Dr Miller will be joined by tenor Robert Swensen, who will sing excerpts from Schubert's Winterreise, which he just recorded with Mr. Miller. Backstage Pass with Russell Miller airs Friday, September 16 at 1 p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD 91.5-1. It repeats on Sunday, September 18 at 2 p.m.
Dr. Miller has performed throughout the United States and abroad as soloist and chamber musician, including concert tours to Korea and Hong Kong with tenor Robert White and to Alaska and the former Soviet Union with cellist Stephen Kates. Other notable collaborations include concerts with mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne, baritone Håkan Hagegård, cellist Ron Leonard, violist Donald McInnes and violinists Lynn Blakeslee, Glenn Dicterow and Zvi Zeitlin. For twelve years he was the musical director for the vocal quartet “SATB”, which offered a wide variety of repertoire from opera to Broadway.
Backstage Pass is a live, hour-long radio series that is committed to highlighting performing artists – giving Classical 91.5/90.3/FM-HD 91.5-1 listeners the opportunity to hear local and visiting musicians performing live. The series is made possible in part by a grant from the Gouvernet Arts Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation. The program will repeat Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m.on Classical 91.5.
