Host Julia Figueras welcomes jazz vocalist, drum set artist, solo marimbist, orchestral percussionist and timpanist – the multi-talented Kristen Shiner McGuire. to Backstage Pass, Friday, February 15, 2013 at 1p.m. on Classical 91.5/FM-HD91.5-1. Ms. McGuire will play live in studio with other guest musicians and share stories about her music.
Ms. McGuire earned her Bachelor's of Music Degree from the University of Illinois and a Masters Degree in Percussion Performance and a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. She has performed with Clark Terry, Johnnie Mathis, Mickey Rooney, the Pan Gaia Steel Band, the New Japan Philharmonic, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestras, among many others. She currently performs with the Barry Tee Jazz Trio, Kristen Jazz, the RPO Marimba Band, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
A published author and composer, Ms. McGuire is widely known in the percussion field for her distinct and accessible writing style. Her compostions include Declaration, Song, and Dance for solo timpani (Ludwig Music), Please Pass the Beats! For percussion ensemble (Kendor Music), Celestial Welcome (Alfred Publishing) and‘Dis Is How Her Songo, a commissioned drumset quartet written for and premiered by the Women’s Percussion Project 2002.
Backstage Pass is a live, hour-long radio series that is committed to highlighting performing artists – giving Classical 91.5/90.3/FM-HD 91.5-1 listeners the opportunity to hear local and visiting musicians performing live. The series is made possible in part by a grant from the Gouvernet Arts Fund at Rochester Area Community Foundation.
