Weekend Update

Monday night, June 9th, the RPO plays Métaboles (Metamorphoses) by the living French composer Henri Dutilleux.

“In the conception of this work,” Dutilleux wrote, “the composer never ceased to dream of the mysterious and compelling realm of eternal metamorphosis. The spirit and the form of the music find their origins in an intense contemplation of nature.”

Hear it Monday at 8:00 p.m. on Classical 91.5 FM, 90.3 or streaming.

Also, Yo-Yo Ma and the RPO have given WXXI permission to air their recent, sold-out concert. That’ll happen in mid-September. And I listened to the recording of Carmina Burana and was not disappointed. It was smashing and incisive.

I really like the image you used here.

Andrew Wheeland's picture

I like this picture quite a bit! Where is it from?

Trees

Thanks, Andrew. I took that picture a couple of weeks ago at Linwood gardens, 35 miles southwest of Rochester. The landscape was designed in the early 1900’s with walled gardens, pools and fountains, ornamental trees, and a view of the valley below. It's open a couple of times a year, and my family and I always try to go. It's quite something! There's also a labyrinth.
