October 2014 listings for The New York Philharmonic Orchestra

Known for his Pulitzer-prize winning Second Concerto for Orchestra, Steven Stucky wrote his first 4 symphonies before he was 30 but withdrew all of them. Now in his late 60’s, his first symphony was premiered by the LA Philharmonic in 2012.  He describes the piece as being “a single expanse of music that travels through a series of emotional landscapes, depositing us at the end of our journey in a different place from where we set out.” The piece airs on 10/12.
