Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelly had faith that love and reason would make life ever more perfect.  I have faith that spring IS coming and that great music and poetry will soothe our dark thoughts in this endless winter. From the Top presents its first International program

From the Top’s first international show in Bogotá, Colombia last week was a collaboration with the Batuta National Foundation (Colombia’s national youth music program) and the Filarmónica Joven de Colombia (Colombia’s national youth orchestra), and was one of the most inspiring and rewarding journeys we have ever experienced.

Bringing opera to kids...NOT!

Dad was out of town at a college reunion, so we decided to take a trip to the movies to see the new Harry Potter with friends.  Lights go down, trailers start, and then...one began.  A young lad is climbing out of a taxi, ubiqitous ominous  music thudding under the images...well, you can see it for yourself.

From the Top

Hearing so much about NPR’s “From the Top” this week has filled me with parental angst. Why aren’t MY kids writing symphonies, knocking off Chopin etudes, or sawing at the cello like little Yo Yos? What magical pills are other parents giving their kids to make them WANT to practice?

To dig deeper into these mysteries, I randomly polled my colleagues at WXXI, asking, “How hard do you push your kids to do well in music, arts, and sports? How do you encourage your kids to succeed?”

Here’s a sampling of responses:

From the Top gathers momentum

From the Top is coming to Rochester on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in the Callahan Theater at Nazareth College. The event is almost completely sold out - with the exception of just a few Patron Tickets still available as of this writing on January 9th. However, if you can't get to the show, there are still other ways to celebrate our five Rochester Kids who will be performing that day.
