Road sign

Here's a sign you don't see every day. It signals the entrance to the Alice Busch Opera Theater, where Glimmerglass stages operas every July and August. The theater near Cooperstown is a world-class destination about 3 hours east of Rochester and 4 hours north of New York City. Writer Alex Ross reviews Glimmerglass in the latest New Yorker, and some of his impressions of Wagner's "Das Liebersverbot" match my own.

Click here to see Ryan MacPherson as Luzio in the American fully-staged premiere of Wagner's "Das Liebesverbot" at Glimmerglass. For fun, try watching the Youtube clip without sound first, then turn the sound up and watch it again (it's only about a minute long.) Whad'ya think?

Tonight (August 22nd) is the final performance.
