Event Description: New York Education Commissioner John King will be in Rochester to participate in a live forum to discuss Common Core Standards on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at WXXI Studios.  The forum, moderated by WXXI Education Reporter Hélène Biandudi Hofer, will broadcast live at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV and AM 1370, and stream online right here. Commissioner King, along with Wade S. Norwood and T. Andrew Brown, members of the New York State Board of Regents, will answer questions from a studio audience made up of parents, educators, administrators, and community members. After the hour-long TV and radio broadcast, an additional half-hour of discussion will be webcast on WXXI.org/commoncore until 9:30 p.m.

Streaming will begin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3rd.

Individuals interested in attending the forum needed to register online by 12 p.m. on November 21 to enter a lottery for available seating. Due to the size of the studio, WXXI will randomly select 100 guests from the registration forms. The random selection will provide a balance of parents, educators, administrators, and community members. Selected attendees will be notified via email on Friday, November 22.

WXXI’s forum is the final of four public broadcasting forums hosting the Commissioner and community members. The forums are designed to address issues raised by the implementation of the Common Core Standards in New York State.

Those who are not able to be part of the in-studio audience are invited to join the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #WXXICC while watching the live TV broadcast or listening to the audio simulcast on radio.
