THE VIETNAM WAR, a new 10-part, 18-hour documentary film series directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, will air as a marathon offering November 11, 2017 from 11am-9pm & November 12th 12pm-8pm on WXXI-TV.

On-Demand Education Programming

Episode 1: Déjà Vu (1858-1961) on-demand through 10/17. After a century of French occupation, Vietnam emerges independent but divided.
THE VIETNAM WAR, Episode 2: Riding the Tiger (1961-1963) on-demand through 10/17. As a communist insurgency gains strength, JFK wrestles with US involvement in Vietnam.
Episode 3: The River Styx (January 1964-December 1965) on-demand to 10/3 and again 10/10-10/24. With South Vietnam near collapse, LBJ bombs the North and sends US troops to the South.
Episode 4: Resolve (January 1966-June 1967) on-demand to 10/3 and again 10/17-10/31. US soldiers discover Vietnam is unlike their fathers’ war, as the antiwar movement grows.
Episode 5: This Is What We Do (July 1967-December 1967) on-demand to 10/3 and again 10/18-11/7. President Johnson escalates the war while promising the public that victory is in sight.
Episode 6: Things Fall Apart (January 1968-July 1968) on-demand to 10/3 and again 10/31-11/14. Shaken by the Tet Offensive, assassinations and unrest, America seems to be coming apart.
Episode 7: The Veneer of Civilization (June 1968-May 1969) on-demand to 10/3 and again 11/7-11/21. After chaos roils the Democratic Convention, Nixon, promising peace, wins the presidency.
Episode 8: The History of the World (April 1969-May 1970) on-demand to 10/3 and again 11/14-11/28. Nixon withdraws troops but upon sending forces to Cambodia the antiwar movement reignites.
Episode 9: A Disrespectful Loyalty (May 1970-March 1973) on-demand to 10/3 and again 11/21-12/5. South Vietnam fights alone as Nixon and Kissinger find a way out for America. Some POWs return.
Episode 10: The Weight of Memory (March 1973-Onward) on-demand to 10/3 and again 11/28-12/12. Saigon falls and the war ends. Americans & Vietnamese from all sides seek reconciliation.
