A magical night of classical music starring some the world's most talented musicians.

Classical music lovers will delight in the opportunity to celebrate the life of the late Luciano Pavarotti in PAVAROTTI: SALUTE PETRA, airing Monday, November 30 at 10:00 p.m.on WXXI-TV (DT21.1/cable1011/cable11). The combination of a mesmerizing setting with performances from some of the world’s most respected and revered musicians made it one of the musical events of the decade.

The late King Hussein of Jordan and Pavarotti dreamed of holding a spectacular concert at the beautiful and historic venue of Petra. Nicoletta Mantovani, Luciano’s widow, and HRH Princess Haya of Jordan, Pavarotti’s friend, teamed up to make this dream a reality on what would have been Pavarotti’s 73rd birthday.

Set at the beautiful and serene Bedouin Site, Ammarin Camp Petra, an audience of 500 enjoyed an extraordinary line up of artists who performed with Pavarotti throughout his career.

Plácido Domingo and José Carreras, who famously performed with Pavarotti as the Three Tenors for more than 17 years, poignantly sang together for the first time since his passing. Andrea Bocelli’s voice boomed around the natural amphitheatre with a spine tingling performance of “Mattinata,” and the quartet of Angela Gheorghiu, Andrea Bocelli, Cynthia Lawrence and Sherrill Milnes performed a powerful rendition of “Act III Quartet” from Puccini’s “La Bohème.” And perhaps most movingly, Pavarotti himself – via archival film – ended the show with his climactic “Nessun Dorma.”

On this memorable night, the natural amphitheatre of the Ammarin Camp, with its haunting night views of the mountains and unique landscape, proved to be the perfect setting to remember one of opera’s greatest tenors.  The stunning location not only brought a visual beauty that matched the grandness of Pavarotti’s voice, but also brilliantly captured the awe-inspiring vocal performances of his fellow opera singers and friends.
