An eclectic celebration of the holiday season!
The country’s biggest multi-cultural holiday show, L.A. Holiday Celebration 2011 airing Sunday, December 25 at 12 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011), is the “best of” of the 51st Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Music Center in December 2010. The one-hour highlights version of this Emmy-nominated music and dance spectacular combines seasonal traditions from around the world with a look at L.A.’s grass roots artists and favorite holiday customs.
L.A. HOLIDAY CELEBRATION 2011 showcases highlights from the live, three-hour Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration recorded on Christmas Eve 2010 in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion of the Music Center. This holiday-themed show, attended by nearly 7,000 people annually and featuring 1,000 performers, represents the diverse cultures and holiday traditions found in Los Angeles' myriad neighborhoods. This edition of the Emmy-nominated music and dance extravaganza yields distinctive interpretations of holiday classics and a glimpse into how world cultures mark the season. Highlights include: students performing Dixieland-style tap dance; Colombian folk accordion music; Tagalog (Filipino) Christmas songs; traditional Korean, Hawaiian and Bollywood dances; and a range of seasonal stylings performed by community and professional choruses, Jubilee singers, big bands and more.
