Raising 100,000 Voices Screening
Raising 100,000 Voices Screening
Tue, 05/10/2011 - 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Please join us for a public screening of a series of mini-documentaries produced by local teens.
In 2005 WXXI, the University of Rochester Medical Center’s (URMC) Department of Psychiatry and The Roadwork For Success In Young Adulthood launched a national outreach initiative designed to encourage young adults to share, through video, community issues and hopes they face as emerging adults. The project, Raising 100,000 Voices, was such a success that funding continued, and the project partners are pleased to host their sixth public screening of new mini-documentaries on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 6 p.m. at Hatch Recital Hall, Eastman East Wing, 433 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14604. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required by calling (585) 258-0278. The screening is sponsored by WXXI, URMC, The Roadwork For Success In Young Adulthood, and the Eastman School of Music. More than 160 films have been produced and screened since the initiative launched. This year, a new group of teens were invited by eleven participating organizations to join some returning filmmakers and produce their own video projects. Approximately 30 videos will be screened at the May 10th premiere. Many of this year’s videos are focused on health issues, and will be available for viewing after the May 10th screening at http://www.wxxi.org/education/raising100kvoices/.
Participating organizations of 2011 include: Charles Settlement House, Inc., Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc.’s Youth-Adult Partnership/Sankofa Leadership Academy, Dazzle School of Visual and Performing Arts, Inc., General Elwell S. Otis School # 30 of the Rochester City School District (RCSD), Grace Community Village, Inc.'s Y.E.P.P., Operation Higher Learning, Inc. (OHL) with the Thomas P. Ryan Community Center, Teens Advocating Nonviolence (TAN) of Parsells Avenue Community Church, Rochester STEM High School of RCSD, School of Imaging and Information Technology at Edison of RCSD, and Youth in Progress.
Raising 100,000 Voices is funded in part by the Tauck Foundation. To learn more about this project, visit: wxxi.org/education/raising100kvoices/index.html
