Acclaimed guitarist Jeff Beck is joined by special musical guests to play tribute to the legendary Les Paul in a concert special taped on what would have been Les Paul’s 95th birthday.

Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul airs Sunday, July 24 at 7 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11). Backed by The Imelda May Band, with special guests Brian Setzer, Gary U.S. Bonds, and Trombone Shorty, this intimate concert proves why Jeff Beck is considered one of the greatest guitarists to ever strap on the instrument, and why he is an apt host for an evening devoted to Les Paul, the instrument’s most illustrious innovator.

In addition to a career with a stunning 43 top forty hits, Les Paul is
widely credited as the inventor of both the solid-bodied electric guitar
and the multi-track recording machine. These innovations, made in the
1940s and 50s, made possible a new generation of music in the 1960s.

Honoring Les Paul is the 5-time Grammy winner including Best Instrumental Performance and 2-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Jeff Beck. Jeff and the band play Les Paul classics such as “How High the Moon,” “Mockin’ Bird Hill” and “Bye Bye Blues,” as well as blistering versions of rock-n-roll staples such as “Twenty Flight Rock,” “Peter Gunn,” “Rocking Business,” “New Orleans,” and the incredible “Walking in the Sand.”

Taped at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City, where Les Paul took the stage every week from 1995 until his passing in August 2009, this intimate concert features an invite-only, star-studded audience, incredible musicianship, and powerful songs that make for an unforgettable evening.

Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul features these performances:

• “Baby Let’s Play House”
• “Double Talking Baby”
• “Poor Boy”
• “How High the Moon”
• “Sitting on Top of the World”
• “Bye Bye Blues”
• “The World Is Waiting for the Sunrise”
• “Mockin’ Bird Hill”
• “Tiger Rag”
• “Peter Gunn”
• “Rocking Is Our Business”
• “New Orleans”

Jeff Beck Honors Les Paul

It was by chance, while visiting some friends for a birthday party, that I got to watch this show - WXXI happened to be on when the show started. We were all excited to see Jeff Beck. Then, I saw Imelda May who is from a part of Dublin I know well. (Way to go Imelda!) It was a breathtaking performance and put us in a great mood for the rest of the party. We can't wait to see the show again.

Thank you WXXI for such an outstanding broadcast.
