Fri, 06/01/2012 - 10:00pm

See how doctors weigh the benefits of medical imagery with the potential risks posed by ionizing radiation.

Utilizing a CT or “CAT” scan has proven to be an effective diagnostic tool for phyisicans. Yet one scan can deliver the same radiation as 442 chest X-rays or 74 mammograms. Second Opinion: Medical Radiation airs Friday, June 1 at 10 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011/11).

In each episode, Emmy award-winning veteran host Dr. Peter Salgo presents a medical mystery to a panel of experts that must identify the ailment and present the best diagnosis. Second Opinion is made possible in part by support from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), which has been the major funder since the series’ inception in 2004.
