Signs of the Time

Rochester native Bill Klem, the father of modern umpires, is featured in the award-winning documentary Signs of the Time. Klem’s story and that of the 19th century deaf ballplayer William “Dummy” Hoy are told in this film that reveals the myth and mystery behind one of the greatest innovations of baseball – umpire hand signals. Signs of the Time, produced by Rochester-based Crystal Pix and presented by WXXI, makes its broadcast premiere on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 9 p.m. WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 1011 and 11) and on public television stations across the country. The film will encore on the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hoy – May 23 at 7 p.m. on WXXI-World (DT 21.2/cable 524).
