Enjoy a matinee of three At the Top Series films that spotlight the amazing work of historic jazz musicians.
It's a Jazz Fest Free-for-All from WXXI and the Little Theatre! Every night of the Jazz Fest, we're proud to bring you a free screening of a jazz film. On Saturday, June 30 from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. enjoy three films, from the At the Top Series, that spotlight jazz musicians. The films will be introduced by WXXI's Tom Hampson.
The first film at 12 p.m. is Jimmy McPartland and Friends, recorded in 1977. The film features Jimmy McPartland on cornet, Marian McPartland on piano, Brian Torff on bass, George Reed on drums, Buddy Tate on saxaphone, and Herb Hall on clarinet.
The second film at 1:30 p.m. is Earl Hines Quintet, recorded in 1977. Earl "Fatha" Hines perfomes on piano with John Ore on bass, Rudy Rutherford on reeds, Eddie Graham on drums and Marva Josie as vocalist.
