Be a "Homework Hotline" Student Host!

Auditions held June 24 & 25

On the set of Homework Hotline

Audition to be a student host of Homework Hotline, WXXI's call-in TV show, where kids get help with homework problems right on the air.

Homework Hotline is looking for students, 11-16 years old, who are available 15-20 hours in July-August for guest host opportunities. The selected 6-8 students will host special Homework Hotline segments to air during the 2013-2014 season. Segments could include topics such as health, sports, careers, volunteer opportunities, nutrition and the arts. This is not a paid opportunity.

Auditions will be held at WXXI's studios on Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25 from 6-8p.m. and are made by appointment only. To schedule an audition, contact Homework Hotline producer Lisa Famiglietti at (585)258-0392 or lfamiglietti@wxxi.org. All appointments must be made by Friday, June 21st at 4:30 p.m.

Audition Requirements: 
  • Bring completed application (see pdf below) or resume and headshot, if available as well  as WXXI Student Release Form (see pdf below)
  • State full name, age, and school. 
  • Share acting experience and interest in hosting opportunity. 
  • Memorize segment script provided by Homework Hotline. (part of the pdf below)
  • Choose 2 segment scenarios provided by Homework Hotline. (part of the pdf below)

Homework Hotline is designed for children in grades four through 12 andit provides the tools students need to succeed in school, and supports academic achievement across a variety of NYS Learning Standards. Teachers from Rochester Dial-A-Teacher take the calls and send them to WXXI studios in Rochester, where host teachers, who are experts in subjects across the curriculum, are standing by ready to help kids work through their homework assignments live on television. Produced by WXXI, and broadcast on PBS stations across New York State, Homework Hotlinehas helped thousands of children with their studies.
