Our panelists discuss how we age and how we might extend life by focusing on improving the quality of our lives as we age.

Second Opinion is fast moving and provocative. It shows the conversations doctors are having about their patients when their patients aren't there. The lay people on the panel put viewers inside these conversations, giving them a voice in medical discussions. Second Opinion: "Forever Young" airs Thursday, August 21 at 8:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV.

The series is hosted by nationally acclaimed Dr. Peter Salgo, who maintains a full-time practice in Intensive Care Medicine in the Open Heart ICU at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Salgo presents intriguing, real-life, medical cases to teams of medical professionals from every medical specialty and every part of the country. The experts grapple with diagnosis and treatment options, giving viewers an understanding of complex health issues and access to accurate medical information.  With fascinating topics such as “HIV in Later Life,” “The Art of Diagnosis,” and “Anxiety Disorder,” the show engages a panel of medical professionals and lay people in honest, in-depth discussions about life-changing medical decisions.

Produced by WXXI in association with the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC) and West 175 Productions, and supported by the BlueCross BlueShield Association, Second Opinion is seen on more than 250 PBS stations across the country. Season five of the series garnered two 2009 Telly Awards and two 2009 Communicator Awards.
