As part of the Indie Lens Pop-Up Series WXXI is pleased to present Real Boy– by Shaleece Haas on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at the Little Theatre.

Real Boy is the coming-of-age story of Bennett, a trans teenager with dreams of musical stardom. During the first two years of his gender transition, as Bennett works to repair a strained relationship with his family, he is taken under the wing of his friend and musical hero, celebrated trans folk singer Joe Stevens.

Following the screening Bennett and Joe will be doing a Q&A and will also perform a couple of tunes. Check them out in this video:

WXXI partnered with the Gay Alliance and ImageOut to organize this free screening.

Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations. Featuring documentaries seen on PBS's Independent Lens, Indie Pop-Up draws local residents, leaders and organizations to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics, to family and relationships.  Make friends, share stories, and join the conversation.

Presented by ITVS.  Funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting with additional support from MacArthur Foundation, Wyncote Foundation, Art Works and the National Endowment for the Arts.
