Extraordinary educators believe that empathy and life skills, more than academics, give underserved students command of their own futures. Attend a webinar with the principal of the school featured in the program.

At a remote Mojave Desert high school, empathy, life skills, and self-paced academics, administered by committed educators give underserved students a chance at a better future. This coming-of-age story watches education combat the crippling effects of poverty in the lives of these so-called "bad kids." The Bad Kids will air on WXXI-TV on March 20, 2017 10-11:30pm

Join Independent Lens and Principal Vonda Viland from the powerful and inspiring Independent Lens documentary, The Bad Kids, for a deep dive into understanding the needs of at-risk students, and to learn about proven practices and resources for creating safe and inclusive environments that support students’ success.

In this  webinar, Black Rock Continuation High School Principal Viland will provide educators, administrators, and social service providers with the lessons learned from these so-called “bad kids” that will inspire new approaches and perspectives on supporting students in meeting graduation goals and developing critical life skills.
