A Tale of Two Sisters

Modern historical icons Jacqueline Kennedy and Amelia Earhart have two very different sets of accomplishments between them, but they do share an unexpected commonality: both had sisters who became profound influences on their lives.Distributed by American Public Television and releasing on public television stations nationwide, A Tale of Two Sisters airs on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 10:36 p.m. on WXXI-TV.

Narrated by Rachel Stirling (The Detectorists, Capital), each 45-minute documentary focuses on a pair of historic sisters. Episode one illustrates the bond between Amelia Earhart and her sister Muriel, who was the aviator’s greatest champion and support system. Though July 2017 will mark 80 years since Amelia’s plane disappeared, Muriel kept her legacy alive long after she was gone. Episode one also contains interview segments with Amelia’s own niece, Amy Kleppner.

Episode two untangles the complex dynamic between Jacqueline Kennedy and her sister Lee Radziwell. As members of an American social dynasty, their lives were deeply intertwined, and together they faced politics, marriage, and untimely death with a mixture of love and rivalry.

Two nuanced portraits of four unique women, the documentary reveals a little-seen side of history from the perspective of family. A Tale of Two Sisters was acquired by American Public Television from 3DD Entertainment for syndication to public television stations nationwide.
