Hosted by Houston Grand Opera’s General Director Anthony Freud, WXXI-FM presents six operas from the 2007-2008 season. Recognized internationally for their artistic excellence and innovation, the Houston Grand Opera will present works by Verdi, Donizetti, Mozart, Benjamin Britten and the world premiere of The Refuge by Christopher Theofanidis. The Refuge tells the stories of extraordinary journeys by people from Houston's African, Central American, Mexican, Indian, Pakistani, Soviet-era Jewish, and Vietnamese communities. Houston Grand Opera airs Saturdays at 1 p.m. beginning October 18 on Classical 91.5/90.3/HD 91.5-1.

Since its inception in 1955, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has swiftly grown from a small regional organization into an internationally renowned opera company. The company has a reputation for commissioning and producing new works, including 36 world premieres and six American premieres since 1973. In addition to producing and performing world-class opera, HGO contributes to the cultural enrichment of Houston and the nation through a diverse, innovative and balanced program of performances, events, community and education projects that reaches the widest possible public.
