Soundstage presents Counting Crows: Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings
Mon, 01/12/2009 (All day)
The new season of Soundstage premieres with the Counting Crows performing the majority of their fifth studio release, Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, a tightly crafted concept album that’s the perfect combination of high and low. The Saturday Nights songs are upbeat, pairing subtle but expressive lyrics with fast-paced, brazen electric guitar; the Sunday Mornings selections have a more reflective, subdued tone. Soundstage presents Counting Crows: Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, airing Sunday, January 11 at 12 midnight on WXXI-TV 21 (cable 11) and WXXI-HD (cable 1011 and DT 21.1).
An energized Adam Duritz starts the night off right with a raucous version of the CD opener 1492. He sings of loss in the moody Washington Square, accompanied by piano and acoustic guitar. His no-holds-barred emotion also resonates in slower songs like Le Ballet d'Or and When I Dream of Michelangelo. Other must-sees include Los Angeles and Cowboys.
The winter season of Soundstage features an exciting and diverse musical line-up including performances by Idina Menzel with Josh Groban and Ravi Coltrane, Foreigner, B.B. King, Umphrey’s McGee and Seal.
Over the years, the innovative and prestigious Soundstage achieved widespread critical acclaim and featured the artists that defined the era, including Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt, Al Green, Doobie Brothers, Harry Chapin, Dionne Warwick, Temptations and Kenny Loggins, among others. Since Soundstage was reintroduced, performers have included the Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Joss Stone, Wilco, Sonic Youth, All-American Rejects, KT Tunstall, Train, Alison Krauss, Alanis Morissette, Alan Jackson, and more.
