This Season's Episodes

Marianne Trudel is a multi-talented pianist, composer, improviser, and arranger.  At once energetic and passionate, her music cross-cuts a wide swath of musical interests.  She has published 6 recordings as a leader all having garnered rave reviews.  She has played in Canada, United States, France, Spain, Germany, and Mexico.

The Obsessions Octet was founded in 2005 by Kent Sangster a jazz saxophonist, and his wife Joanna Ciapka-Sangster, a classically trained violinist, out of their long- held desire to make music together.

Pianist and composer Jon Ballantyne has released 10 albums and won 2 Juno Awards.   He is an artist who deftly combines the unknown with the known. Listening to the wondrous sounds he makes at the piano, audiences can never be sure where he will take the music next.

Vocalist/pianist Elizabeth Shepherd arrived on the international scene in 2006 when her debut album Start To Move was voted one of the top jazz albums of the year by the listeners of the influential Gilles Peterson Show on BBC Radio Worldwide. Since then, the Toronto-based soul jazz innovator has released two widely acclaimed records and toured extensively in North America, Europe and Japan.

An engaging, lyrical saxophonist, Mike Murley is one of Canada's finest jazz talents and one of the most versatile players on the scene today. Currently active as a leader in various formations from duo to septet, Murley also maintains a busy schedule as a sideman and jazz educator (University of Toronto). He has played on eleven Juno Award-winning recordings since 1991.

Jeff Johnston is a Canadian based composer of music for film and media.  With musical beginnings as a jazz pianist and recording artist his works are infused with alluring harmonies, lush textures, rhythmic inventiveness and spontaneity.

JUNO Award winning band, Pugs and Crows, performs original instrumental music that explores a wide range of sonic textures by blending elements of indie rock, modern jazz, and neoclassicism.
