WXXI & the Little Theatre honor Black History Month with special programming

February marks Black History Month and WXXI and the Little Theatre are pleased to present a variety of programs that spotlight the men and women who shaped the African-American experience. This includes the Little’s Black History Film Series, with feature films screening every Saturday throughout the month. Coming up Saturday, Feb. 13 at 3 p.m. is BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez, a documentary about the poet, playwright, teacher, activist, Sonia Sanchez. The following Saturday, Feb. 20 is Spike Lee Saturday, where the Little will screen 2000's Damon Wayans-starring satire Bamboozled at 3 p.m., and Chi-Raq at 7 p.m.

On WXXI-TV you'll find American Masters: B.B. King: The Life of Riley, premiering Friday, February 12 at 9 p.m., The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution on Tuesday, February 16 at 9 p.m.  (this will also screen at the Little Theatre for free that same night at 7 p.m. as part of WXXI's Indie Lens Pop Up series), and In Performance at the White House: Smithsonian Salutes Ray Charles on Friday, February 26 at 9 p.m.

As we enter the holiday season and the end of 2015, it’s a good time to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year. In addition to compelling programming from NPR and PBS and independent films at The Little, I'm proud of the work of the staff of WXXI and The Little. I thought I'd share my top five favorites of 2015:

Drs. Jacques & Dawn Lipson named WXXI Associates of the Year

On November 14th, WXXI hosted our annual Associates Event at Monroe Golf Club and brought in NPR White House Correspondent Scott Horsley as our guest speaker. Scott shared a behind-the-scenes look at the White House and what it’s like reporting on the policy and politics of the Obama Administration.
