From the President

Exciting news announced at the Television Critics Press Tour

I wanted to share some exciting programming news with you. At the recent Television Critics Press Tour, PBS President Paula Kerger announced that PBS will partner with the BBC and BBC World News in a co-production agreement that will bring 20 hours of new programming to PBS this year. PBS has enjoyed a long history of working with the BBC to bring titles such as Sherlock and Call the Midwife to our audiences, and we’re happy that this partnership means the relationship will continue to grow. We look forward to sharing more information about the new shows as details become available in the coming months.

Also announced at the Press Tour was a new PBS American drama series. Inspired by a true story and set in Alexandria, Virginia, this 6-hour hospital drama and family saga is framed against the backdrop of the Civil War. The series follows two volunteer nurses on opposite sides of the conflict and is set in a family-owned hotel that has been taken over and transformed into a Union Army Hospital. Stay tuned for more details and broadcast dates.

Until then, you can look forward to spending nights with other Masterpiece classics like Mr. Selfridge, enjoy the beauty of contemporary dance with the Mark Morris Dance Company in Great Performances: L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, and end the month engaged by the new Ken Burns documentary, Cancer: Emperor of All Maladies.
