August is almost here and now we’re in the thick of the dog days of summer. I hope you have a chance to savor this month with some fun activities. We have some great events planned for August and I thought I’d share my top 5 favorites with you:
In July of 1964 a three-day race riot erupted in two African-American neighborhoods in Rochester. In remembrance WXXI will present July '64, the locally produced documentary that tells the story of the riot, on Tuesday, July 14 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV.
I hope you and your family enjoy the “4th of July” celebrations here in Rochester, or wherever you may be over the long weekend. WXXI-TV will celebrate with its annual broadcast of A Capitol Fourth, which is broadcast live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Saturday, July 4 at 8:00 p.m. (and repeated at 9:30 p.m.).
This year's Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival kicks off this Friday and whether you spend one night or all nine there, you can be sure that WXXI will have you all jazzed up! From concert previews during Morning Edition to performance reviews during All Things Considered we'll have you all set whether you're coming or going.
The Weather Channel's forecast for Canandaigua this Saturday is 70 and sunny! That's perfect weather to see public radio’s beloved variety show A Prairie Home Companion at Constellation Brands–Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center. WXXI is pleased to bring this live broadcast of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion to CMAC on Saturday.
