Going OnStage with Rochester Area Music

If you are a fan of local music, you’ve had a great summer to hear performers in clubs, on streets and at festivals throughout the area. From the Rochester International Jazz Festival in June (WXXI recorded nightly for our next Jazz Festival series), Bands on the Bricks at the Public Market (WXXI was there taping The Lou Graham Band concert), The GrassRoots Festival (WRUR and WITH hosted a live remote from there), East End Festival or Park Ave Festival – not to mention the open mic nights in venues across Rochester – this has been a spectacular music season.
Add to that, ongoing classical music performances, such as West Side Story at the Auditorium Theatre, plus a variety of headliners at CMAC, and you can quickly see that Rochester provides endless musical choices.
We try to offer up that same breadth of arts and culture throughout our services, as well. You can watch everything from Live from Lincoln Center and Great Performances to Soundstage and Austin City Limits on WXXI-TV/HD. Classical 91.5 not only provides locally hosted classical music programs, but also features the Los Angeles Opera, as well as symphony orchestras from around world. Add to that the mix of acoustic, singer-songwriter, folk, blues, jazz and eclectic music you get every day from WRUR and WITH, and you’ll quickly discover you can hear – and see – why WXXI is considered the media leader in music and arts in our region.
Now you have the opportunity to be part of that array of talent. WXXI is having a “Call for Bands” for the third season of our television and radio music series, OnStage. In the past you’ve seen artist such as the Campbell Brothers, The Chesterfield Kings and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad take the stage. Now there’s the opportunity for your band (or the band of somebody you know) to be one of six chosen for our upcoming season. Visit the OnStage Web page here for details on how to enter. Entries must be in by September 12. Lou Graham was the first act we recorded this year and, thanks to support from The Genesee Brewing Company, we are excited to see who we will get to join him in our OnStage line-up this season!
