WXXI's commitment to education doesn't end at its award-winning PBS Kids programs like Sesame Street, Arthur, and Curious George. Our Education & Outreach Department provides training for parents and teachers on effective ways to extend learning using media, books, & hands-on learning at home & school. It also creates and hosts family fun and learning events around the community, coordinates our Community Cinema series -- a free screening talkback program about important issues, and provides families and schools with free VITAL NY video on-demand services for use in instruction through wxxi.org/education.
Clearly, education is at the forefront of our mission, so it's no surprise that WXXI was selected to host a live forum to discuss Common Core Standards on Tuesday, December 3 at our studios. New York Education Commissioner John King, along with Wade S. Norwood and T. Andrew Brown, members of the New York State Board of Regents, answered questions from a studio audience made up of parents, educators, administrators, and community members. WXXI’s forum was the final of four public broadcasting forums hosting the Commissioner and community members across the State, which were designed to address issues raised by the implementation of the Common Core Standards in New York State.
If you didn't have a chance to watch the forum live on December 3rd, you can watch the archive online here.
