From the President

Happy New Year!

I hope your holidays were shared with family and friends and that you are looking forward to 2018. One of our wishes for the New Year is to help build a more inclusive community by inspiring and motivating people to embrace different abilities of all people. That’s what our continued partnership with Al Sigl Community of Agencies and our Dialogue on Disability initiative is all about.

For more than a decade this initiative has featured special programs that spotlight the abilities of people with disabilities and encourage dialogue about the vital role inclusion plays in our community. This year we’re hosting a free screening of The Rebound, an award-winning film that follows an underfunded Miami wheelchair basketball team for their first-ever national championship. It will screen at the Little Theatre on Wednesday, January 10 at 7 p.m. We will also have prime time specials, news reports, and community conversations on Connections with Evan Dawson. For a complete list of all programming, visit: WXXI.org/dod.

The vital work of Dialogue on Disability has served as a model for our Move to Include initiative. Al Sigl and WXXI envisioned a project with even bigger community impact and together we worked with the Golisano Foundation to create Move to Include, a project that encourages thoughtful discussion about issues of inclusion and the differently-abled year round.
