Oscar-winning documentarian D.A. Pennebaker comes to the Little Theatre
By Norm Silverstein ~ Posted Mon, 06/10/2013 - 9:11am
Aside from screening incredible independent films, the Little Theatre is innovative in its special events that provide access to industry innovators. This weekend, both film and access come into play as The Little brings D.A. Pennebaker, one of the most influential documentary filmmakers of all time, to Rochester for a weekend music film series. Pennebaker will introduce several of his films, including Dont Look Back – which has been hailed the greatest rock documentary of all time – Ziggy Stardust, and Monterey Pop. He will also take part in two Q&A sessions hosted by Jack Garner.
Pennebaker is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of cinema verite filmmaking. He helped develop one of the first fully portable 16mm synchronized camera and sound recording systems, which revolutionized filmmaking and helped to create the immediate style of shooting so popular today. Aside from his music documentaries, Pennebaker also produced The War Room, a documentary of the Bill Clinton 1992 presidential campaign, as well as the P.O.V. presentation, Kings of Pastry.
Tickets for the films are limited and available at the Little Business Office and Box Office. To find out more visit the little.org. As a preview, you can hear Pennebaker discuss the series on Friday on WRUR's Open Tunnings with Scott Regan. It should be a fascinating couple of days and I look forward to seeing you, and all fans of film and music, there!
