RPO on WXXI

The Rochester Philharmonic is one of our city's cultural treasures, but attending the concerts isn't possible for many in our community. That's why — for more than 30 years — WXXI has partnered with the RPO to make their concerts accessible for everyone! This week, Classical 91.5’s Brenda Tremblay kicks off the radio broadcast of the 2012-13 season of "Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra". The 14-part series airs Mondays at 8 p.m. Throughout the season former Music Director Arild Remmereit and the RPO performed music by living women composers Jennifer Higdon, Margaret Brouwer, Karen Tanaka, and Barbara Kolb, and works from the first half of the 20th century by Amy and Lili Boulanger.

As Rochester's partner in the arts — and having the only full-time classical music station — it has been a natural fit for Classical 91.5 to broadcast the series over the years. Our hope is by making the musical performances available to all, we will inspire the next Renée Fleming, William Warfield or Jeff Tyzik. For a complete schedule, visit WXXI's RPO Broadcasts page.

Another View of the Federal Funding Debate

While the media and special interest groups tend to portray the current debate over federal funding for public broadcasting as a “partisan issue,” a few days in Washington, meeting with our elected officials, again proved that there's support for public media on both sides of the aisle.
