Join us in sharing why public media is important

With recently released Trump Administration Budget proposal that calls for the defunding of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, many have asked me if the future of federal funding for public broadcasting is being called into question. The answer may very well be “yes” and that’s why having a strong, diverse base of grassroots advocates is essential.

WXXI recently attended the Public Media Summit in Washington, DC, where we joined other PBS stations across the country to advocate on behalf of public media, reminding policymakers that federal funding (14% of our budget) helps make possible our missions in education, public affairs and civic leadership and makes our vital programming and services available to everyone, everywhere, every day, for free.

You can participate in this effort, too, by sharing why public media is important to you. Visit Protect My Public Media's website at: protectmypublicmedia.org where you can advocate for WXXI and e-mail your Members of Congress, urging them to pledge their support for public media by signing congressional letters.
