The Met Les Troyens begins at 12:00 Noon, January 5th!!

The Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts for January include two Live in HD theater presentations, and a 12 noon start on January 5th due to the length of Berlioz' Les Troyens.  The Metropolitan opera is partnering with other opera companies this season as noted below.

1/5        12:00 NOON!  Berlioz:  Les Troyens  (Live in HD)  The Met offers a rare opportunity to witness Berlioz’s vast epic, last performed at the Met in 2003. Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Marcello Giordani, and Dwayne Croft lead the starry cast, portraying characters from the Trojan War. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi marshals the large-scale musical forces.

1/12      Verdi:  Il Trovatore l Trovatore returns to the Met in a revival the New York Times calls "rousing, satisfying, truly fun." David McVicar’s vivid production keeps the action moving in Verdi’s intense melodrama, which includes some of the composer’s most memorable music. Carmen Giannattasio, Patricia Racette, Angela Meade, Gwyn Hughes Jones, Marco Berti, Franco Vassallo, and Alexey Markov take on leading roles, with a pair of star mezzos sharing the role of the gypsy Azucena: Stephanie Blythe and Dolora Zajick.  A co-production of the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the San Francisco Opera Association

1/19      Donizetti:  Maria Stuarda (live in HD) Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, one of the world's most exciting singers, takes on the virtuosic bel canto role of the doomed Mary, Queen of Scots, in this Met premiere production. Having scored a major success with his staging of Anna Bolena, director David McVicar now turns to the second opera of Donizetti's Tudor trilogy, which explores regal characters at fateful moments of their lives. Elza van den Heever sings Elizabeth I, Matthew Polenzani is Leicester, and Maurizio Benini conducts.

1/26      Puccini:  La Rondine This is Puccini at his melodic best, as soprano Kristine Opolais makes a notable debut in the title role of this romantic, bittersweet comedy. Tenor Giuseppe Filianoti is her passionate but mismatched lover. Ion Marin conducts.  A co-production of Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden
