WXXI to Televise Forum on Mayoral Control
WXXI will host a live televised forum Thursday, April 1 at 8:00pm on Mayor Robert Duffy's proposal to take over control of Rochester City Schools.
The forum will feature Mayor Duffy and School Board President Malik Evans answering questions from panelists and a live studio audience. Analysis will be provided by educational policy expert Dr. Joseph Viteritti from Hunter College.
WXXI is partnering with City Newspaper and WDKX-FM to present the forum following the release of results of a scientific poll on mayoral control conducted by the Center for Governmental Research.
The panel questioning Duffy and Evans will include WXXI's Bob Smith, host of 1370 Connection on WXXI-AM 1370, Liz Medhin, co-host of WDKX's Wake Up Club and Tim Louis Macaluso, education writer for City Newspaper. WXXI News Director Julie Philipp will moderate the forum.

Mayoral Control
Question for Mayor:
The graduation rate in New York City schools for African American males is 29%. Parents, the Hispanic Federation, and the NAACP are currently suing New York City schools due to continued increases in class sizes. All of this has occurred even with Mayor Bloomberg bringing millions of dollars into New York City schools. How will Mayor Duffy ensure that Mayoral Control under Rochester leadership will be more successful than it has been in New York City?
