Tom Richards Announces Run for Mayor

Deputy Mayor Tom Richards says he will run for mayor if City Council decides to hold a special election to replace Robert Duffy.

Richards has long been rumored to be the one to replace current Mayor Robert Duffy in a special election once Duffy leaves for his new job as Lieutenant Governor.

Richards says he will only run if a special election is held to fill out the remaining 3 years on Duffy's current term. That election would likely be held in early 2011. Richards says he will not accept the job if City Council chooses to appoint him mayor, thus creating the need for a general election in November 2011 (which would possibly be preceded by a Democratic party primary).
