Goal Ball Championships at SUNY Brockport

SUNY Brockport hosted the 2011 National Goal Ball Championships. The game that began as a way to rehabilitate blind veterans after World War II has become a high-energy Paralympic sport.

This video below show how players try and roll the ball into the opposing team's goal while the opposing team throws their bodies down to block the ball. All players wear special goggles to ensure those with limited sight do not have an advantage over players who are totally blind. The ball has a bell in it so that the teams can approximate its location during play.
