Binghamton Area Surveying Damage as Waters Recede
Binghamton and surrounding towns are dealing with the effect of severe flooding after heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee.
Governor Cuomo traveled to Broome County to see the damage and check on relief efforts. Earlier in the week he ordered National Guard troops to the Southern Tier. Some areas suffered even more damage than they did during the devastating floods that hit the region in 2006.
The National Weather Service's Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service maintains this map that tracks river levels.
Our news partner WSKG in Binghamton provided updates on a Flood Tracker blog with the latest info on closings and warnings for residents.
Below is PBS NewsHour's story from Binghamton and parts of Pennsylvania from Thursday night.
