WXXI's Community Cinema invites you to a free screening of a film that chronicles a woman weightlifter's career.
Join us Sunday, May 6, 2012 from 2-4 pm. for WXXI's Community Cinema presentation of Strong! The event is free and open to the public. The screening will be held at WXXI's Studios (280 State Street), and will be followed by a panel discussion. Panelists for the discussion to be announced soon.
A formidable figure, standing at 5’8” and weighing over 300 pounds, Cheryl Haworth struggles to defend her champion status as her lifetime weightlifting career inches towards it inevitable end. Strong! chronicles her journey and the challenges this unusual elite athlete faces, exploring popular notions of power, strength, beauty and health.

Danny Padilla is a professional body builder. In 1970 at age 18, Danny entered the "Mr. Rochester" bodybuilding competition and, was the youngest person ever to win that title. Known as the "Giant Killer," he went on to win the 1975 IFBB Mr. USA, The 1977 IFBB Mr. America and to finish in the "top ten" at the IFBB Night of the Champions and the IFBB Mr. Olympia (including the Masters Olympia) nine separate times.
