Live Musical Performances at WXXI
By Norm Silverstein ~ Posted Tue, 10/25/2011 - 1:43pm
For those of you who aren't aware of it, WXXI's commitment to the arts extends beyond Classical 91.5 and PBS favorites like Live from Lincoln Center and Great Performances. Our efforts in local arts and culture can be experienced throughout the community.
Two great examples – and opportunities – are coming up soon. WXXI is currently taping Season 3 of OnStage, our television and radio series that spotlights the diverse and amazing musical talent from upstate New York. The bands are taped at our High Falls studios and are free for you to attend. All you need to do is call (585) 258-0200 to make your reservations. This Thursday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. Funknut performs, and at 9:00 p.m. it's The Prickers. Friday brings the Cruelty Free for the 7:00 p.m. show and Violet Mary at 9:00 p.m. Production funding, in part, comes from the Genesee Brewing Company, and you can find out more about the series, the artists, and upcoming concerts at our OnStage Web site.
Similarly, if you are looking for a great lunchtime activity, each Wednesday afternoon you can take in a taping of Live from Hochstein. Classical 91.5 airs the performance live from the Hochstein School of Music Dance Performance Hall at 50 Plymouth Avenue North in downtown Rochester. Each of these free “brown bag” classical music concerts runs from 12:10-12:50 p.m. and they are also open to the public. No reservations are needed to experience the longest running live broadcast concert series in Western New York. You can find out more at our Live from Hochstein program page.
I hope you can attend some of these performances. Rochester has an extraordinary music community, and WXXI is proud to be an involved media partner. From bringing OnStage and Live From Hochstein to homes throughout the region, to taking productions like the Rochester International Jazz Festival to homes across the country, you can count on WXXI to showcase the rich arts and culture our community offers.
