Native American History Month

This past weekend, WXXI hosted a Community Cinema screening of “We Still Live Here,” an Independent Lens film that told the remarkable story of the recent cultural and linguistic revival of the Wampanoag tribe of Southeastern Massachusetts. The fascinating film explored how they are bringing their language back to life after many generations without native speakers. A large group attended the free screening in our studio, which was followed by a lively discussion among our studio audience and two panelists – Dr. Kathy Gill, a retired clinical psychologist and Tom Lappas, Ph.D., who is Associate Professor of History at Nazareth College.

If you missed the free screening, you can still catch the film on WXXI-TV/HD Sunday, November 20 at 11 p.m. “We Still Live Here” is just one of a handful of programs WXXI is broadcasting in honor of Native American History Month.  For a complete list of programs, descriptions, and air dates, visit our Native American History web page by clicking here.
