Join us Saturday afternoon for an encore broadcast preview of our new documentary on Rochester's Frank Lloyd Wright House

This Saturday, WXXI presents a rare opportunity for viewers to get on the inside of a historical architectural restoration as we present a preview of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boyton House: The Next Hundred Years as part of an Afternoon of Local Treasures, which begins at 3:00 p.m. Bookending The Next Hundred Years will be Great Homes of Rochester and Restoring a Masterpiece: The Renovation of the Eastman Theatre. The Boynton House documentary spotlights the restoration of Rochester’s only Frank Lloyd Wright house, and while the full-length film will air in its entirety in Spring 2012, WXXI has pulled together highlights for this special preview presentation.

Located on East Avenue, you may have seen ongoing construction and work being done on the home over the last year, and WXXI has been with the owners Fran Cosentino and his wife Jane Parker every step of the way. Cosentino and Parker acquired Frank Lloyd Wright’s Boynton House in 2009 and are working to restore it to its original beauty using materials and processes that Wright himself intended. From termite-infested wood to painstakingly taking apart 100 original windows, this fascinating documentary will give you a glimpse at the twists and turns that restoring a building of such stature and historical significance brings.

WXXI is dedicated to documenting our local history, and I’m certain you will enjoy our entire afternoon of programming on Saturday. Great Homes of Rochester will take you on unprecedented private tours of some of Rochester’s most beautiful establishments – and if you have yet to see Restoring a Masterpiece: The Renovation of the Eastman Theatre, you’re in for a treat as we showcase the intricate renovation of the theatre. In fact, all three programs that afternoon tell the story of the intertwined histories of some of Rochester’s most important local treasures.
