Eastman Opera Competition finalists
By Ruth Phinney ~ Posted Wed, 11/12/2008 - 10:01am
Practice rooms are a-buzz and butterflies will be flying as the eight finalists in the Eastman School of Music Friends of Eastman Opera Competition prepare for the finals on Saturday, November 22nd at 3:00 p.m. in Kilbourn Hall. The eight finalists who will be competing for prizes totaling $2,250 are: baritone Brent Arnold, soprano Maria Bellanca, soprano Julia Bullock, baritone John Buffett, mezzo-soprano Lauren Iezzi, mezzo-soprano Korin Kormick, soprano Amanda Matson, and soprano Julie Norman. The finalists competition is free and open to the public and promises to be a real showcase of talent.
I was fortunate enough to hear soprano Julia Bullock back in April when she received the William Warfield Scholarship. You can read more about her in my past blog posting. Being a mezzo myself, I'm looking forward to hearing some of the repertoire I may have studied many years back. And to the baritones, looking forward to hearing them as well. Hope you'll join me. Congratulations to all the finalists! It is a great accomplishment just to make it to this point in the competition.
