Detropia
Detropia
Wed, 09/12/2012 - 6:00pm - Thu, 09/13/2012 - 8:00pm
Detroit plus dystopia equals Detropia, the story of a Motor City run out of gas. Thanks to auto-industry downsizing and other factors, Detroit is now a poster child for urban decay, with whole neighborhoods abandoned – but hope, determination, and innovation among resilient residents suggest pathways to renewal and, just maybe, brighter days ahead. Directors Ewing and Grady (Academy Award nominees for Jesus Camp) have crafted a textured work with the candor of Michael Moore's Roger & Me, but with an updated, sobering message: This could be any of us.
Catch Detropia as part of the 2012 Greentopia Festival at the Little Theatre on Wednesday, September 12 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, September 13 at 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
Prior to this film the Little Theatre presents the local short film See the Forest for the Trees. See the Forest for the Trees is the title of HowNosm’s mural work at The Little Theatre and this short film documents the 17 hours it took them to create the painting. How and Nosm are twin brothers, born in Spain, raised in Germany, and now residing in Brooklyn, who have painted in over 50 cities around the world. This is one of those rare films that speaks for itself. It speaks of the power and creativity that art lives by.
