Election Night Coverage

Tune in for live coverage of national election results while WXXI News offers updates on local races.

WXXI-AM 1370, WRUR-FM 88.5, and WXXI-TV/HD will provide up-to-the-minute coverage of election results on November 6, 2012 starting at 8 p.m. AM 1370 and FM 88.5 will provide NPR coverage of the national elections, while WXXI’s Center for Public Affairs News Director Julie Philipp, 1370 Connection’s Bob Smith, and Innovation Trail Editor Matthew Leonard will be in studio providing local results and analysis. WXXI Capitol Bureau Correspondent Karen DeWitt will report from Albany. WXXI’s Kate O’Connell will join us from Monroe County Republican headquarters.  Carlet Cleare will be at the Monroe County Democratic headquarters. We'll also have reports from partner stations WNYC in New York City, WBFO in Buffalo, and WRVO in Syracuse.

NPR's election coverage will be hosted by Robert Siegel and Melissa Block. NPR Washington Editor Ron Elving, National Political Correspondent Mara Liasson, and Political Junkie Ken Rudin will be in NPR's DC studio. Siegel and Block will also be joined by NPR contributors E.J. Dionne of The Washington Post and the Brookings Institution and Matt Continetti of the Washington Free Beacon. Exit poll analysis will be presented by Andrew Kohut and Michael Dimock of the Pew Research Center. NPR's Ari Shapiro will report live from the Mitt Romney election night event. Scott Horsley will be at President Obama's election night event. We'll also have NPR reporters and producers with candidates and at state party headquarters nationwide, bringing us the results from key electoral states and Congressional, Senate, and Gubernatorial races.

On WXXI-TV/HD PBS NewsHour senior correspondents Gwen Ifill and Judy Woodruff will co-anchor live coverage of election results, with WXXI’s Hélène Biandudi presenting local breaks throughout the night. NewsHour's coverage will feature analysts Mark Shields and David Brooks, plus NewsHour’s Jeffrey Brown and Christina Bellantoni and Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the Rothenberg Political Report. Ray Suarez and Margaret Warner will be reporting throughout the evening from the presidential candidates’ headquarters in Chicago and Boston. University of Rochester political scientist Gerald Gamm, Pulitzer prize-winning journalist David Cay Johnston, and WXXI’s Scott Fybush will be in WXXI's studios for anaylsis on local races.

WXXINews.org will provide up-to-date poll results as well as two live blogs that allow online visitors to participate in WXXI's national and local elections coverage. Visit WXXINews.org to follow the blogs. PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan will be using the multi-layered NewsHour Map Center to drill deeper into the specifics of the outcomes in key battleground states.  He will be talking with public media reporters and others throughout the night, including WXXI’s Juan Vazquez.
