The numbers are staggering: 1 out of every 88 children in America has autism. Autism: Emerging from the Maze, airing Sunday, January 13, 2013 at 4 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD (DT21.1/cable 11 and 1011), examines the research and advancements in treatment at the UC Davis MIND Institute making international news and how a clinic at Sutter Heath is helping autistic adults. Inspiring stories and behavior therapy programs help children and families from the maze of this puzzling disorder.

Autism: Emerging from the Maze is part of Dialogue on Disability: The Herman & Margaret Schwartz Community Series, a partnership between WXXI and Al Sigl Community of Agencies. The week-long programming intiative is designed to encourage community dialogue about the abilities of people with physical and intellectual disabilities, and the importance of inclusion. Dialogue on Disability runs January 7-14, 2013.
