Talking Music: A few recent conversations
By Mona Seghatoleslami ~ Posted Fri, 02/01/2013 - 4:41pm
Isn’t it fun to talk about music? I’m always happy to chat (we can start a shouting match have a civil discussion over on Twitter or Facebook if you’d like).
Here are a few of my recent slightly more structured musical conversations: interviews that were featured on WXXI’s Classical 91.5 Some of them are musicians in Rochester, others just stopping by for a visit.
An invitation to the opera, with opera director and ESM professor Benton Hess.
Eastman School of Music's David Higgs discusses the Eastman-Rochester Organ Initiative, and some future directions for the pipe organ.
Boston-based ensemble Dinosaur Annex visited Rochester to play a concert, with a program that included music by Eastman School of Music professor and chair of the composition department, Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon. Dinosaur Annex co-artistic director Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin (who is also a professor of music at MIT) stopped by to talk.
Here’s one of my absolute favorites from the fall:
Dr. Philip Carli is a musicologist, sound recording historian, film scholar, film accompanist, pianist, professor and conductor. He has accompanied hundreds of films over the years. He can be heard in Rochester as the staff accompanist for the George Eastman House. Check out our interview (with a piano in the studio).
Keep in touch, and if you like to find more of my interviews as they get posted online, check back here.
